The 80s: Past, Present & Future

INTERVIEW: MICHELLE VISAGE / SEDUCTION

1. Last I heard, you were a radio personality on sattelite radio. Any truth to that? How did you go from singer to radio personality? Seems like many are doing that. Is that a trend?

Michelle: hmmmm lets see, i was on sirius, but that was a part time gig, i am full time morning radio personality and have been for the past 14 years, sirius was soooo much fun, but i had to leave when they messed with the channel i was on ruining the music and such, it was a matter of integrity but i had a blast doing it!

...as far as it being a trend, i am not quite sure i can answer that as i dont really know anyone doing it full time that were singers, i mean there are a few here and there like judy torres and kay-el from TKA but i cant think of many more so i wouldn't say "trend" is the right word, but that is just my observation!

2. I know you and RuPaul worked together for 2 years on his VH1 talk show. I think he is an amazing guy. Are you close to him? Still keep in touch? Did you know him prior to the show? How did you two meet?

Michelle: Ru and i are the best of friends and soulmate friends for LIFE! i actually was supposed to be on the new RuPauls Drag Race but being in terrestrial everyday radio i couldn't get 2 weeks off in a row to get to LA to shoot it so my love and best wishes of HUGE success is with him of course!

Ru and i knew each other from a looooong time ago, i used to run a vogueing troupe out of NYC and we used to perform at all of the clubs and Ru was a performer at all of the same clubs so when they put us together on the radio (at WKTU in NYC) it was truly a marriage and the VH1 show came out of that! Ru dragged me along for the ride (no pun intended).....i absolutely love, respect and adore him as do my daughters.....

3. Ok, so I have to ask... What do you really think of Madonna?

Michelle: OMG HONESTLY?! you need to ASK that?! this is in NO way a show, it is TRUE, MAD, HONEST love and respect! that woman, has defied SO many odds and continues to do so, i dont think i have the words to express how much admiration i have for that bitch.....

4. Ok, Now I am with an 80s website, so it only makes sense I go there.... "Two To Make It Right" was a huge hit in the 80s. Not to mention the entire album was hot! Who formed Seduction? Was it a novelty group created by someone? Or a real group put together by the 3 original members? I have always wondered about that.

Michelle: Nope, it was a total production deal more or less, no lies there. Robert Clivilles and David Cole (R.I.P.) found Idalis and she was my BFF at the time, i was a receptionist in the garment district in NYC and she called me to tell me all about it, i asked her if they needed a white girl, she didn't know, gave me Robert's number, i went and sang some Teena Marie and blew their doors off so i think they fired the original white girlie they had in there and told me to pack my panties to go on tour! LOL believe it or not, we auditioned for an african american and an asian girl but would couldn't find ones that fit the bill and then David remembered April from when he was growing up and called her in, the rest is history! it was a great time and a fab album, it was SO much fun, hard to believe it was 20 friggin years ago already!

5. I believe Seduction is still around today, the only original member being April Harris. Do you still talk to her? Why did you leave Seduction?

Michelle: No, April and i dont talk, no reason in particular, we were just never close so it is what it is, but i wish her luck with the new Seduction, it aint easy and i truly believe there is a place for everyone in this biz cuz if you got the wherewithall to make it happen then good for you!! there is WAYYYYY too much talent out there that will never get a shot, it makes me sad actually

6. "Its Gonna be a Lovely Day" was a huge club anthem. How did you get involved with the SOUND SYSTEM? Did they release a whole album or just that single?

Michelle: Actually baby it was SOUL SYSTEM and it was a whole album that was never delivered because of some fallout between the producers and the label, sucks right? that was a HOT album, wish i had a copy!

7. Do you plan on recording any more music?

Michelle: I have a rule that i live by: never say never. am i planning on it? not really. BUT it seems that anything people have sent me over the years hasnt been all that motivating. i like to sing songs that MAKE me NEED to sing them, you know what i'm sayin'? that hasnt happened in a VERY long time! but i am ALWAYS open to it, i love to sing

8. I understand that you now live in South Florida. You sure seem to travel alot.
Where is your favorite place to live and visit?

Michelle: that question is interesting because my job takes me all over the country and the world to be honest. i do mornings here in S. FL, i have a radio gig weekly in Ireland, my dream is to do mornings in London!! i have lived in NJ, NYC, LA and now FLA and i love them ALL! they ALL have their highlights, with NJ/NYC being home of course.....i absolutely ADORED LA and they embraced me with open arms and that made me feel so special so if i ever get back there to do radio or TV it wouldn't suck lol.....London is the pipe dream but my hubby and i have always connected with that city so it seems right to put it out there and it will happen one day!~ the thing is, the Brits arent QUITE as enamoured by our accent as we are with theirs here in the states soooooo we will see how THAT goes....lols

9. How did you get connected with TKA for the song "Crash" off their "Louder Than Love" album?

Michelle: The boys and i have always been friends and joey gardner, their manager at the time had always said to me if they could find a record for me to sing and rap on they wanted to do it and they found it in "crash"! it was a BLAST

10. Looking back, do you have any regrets? What does the future hold for Michelle Visage?

Michelle: NO REGRETS! life is too short to have regrets, i dont live that way.....are there things i would change if i had the chance to do it all again? maybe, but maybe not, i am pretty damn happy with life and the way things are working out.....the future holds anything and everything i desire, there are no limits in life, just limiting minds and i dont let that happen to me, if i want it, at the very LEAST, i go for it!

MUCH LOVE to you for caring enough to do this interview, it touches me GREATLY!
