The 80s: Past, Present & Future

1. Many people may not know this, but Taylor Dayne is not your real name.
Can you tell us how you got this name? Did you legally change it?

TD: My name has been changed legally to Taylor Dayne for the last 18years,I was born Leslie Wunderman and grew up in Long Island NY. Indirectly Dee Snyder helped create Taylor Dayne and my production partner Ric wake ,a couple of cocktails and a baby book of names. LOL

2. You first came onto the scene in the late 80s with the power dance tracks "Tell It To My Heart" and "Prove Your Love". The music was great and your image then was just as hot as the music. Was this all your doing or were you molded into that person?

TD: The image was created with lots of hair pieces red lipstick and a crimping iron ,it was just a single sleeve and when the video came out that was it ,I exploded

3. You seem to be very open minded when it comes to making music. I understand in the early 80s before dance music you were actually in a rock band. How did you go from rock to dance? Not only that, but you also stepped into the adult contemporary sound. Was there a reason for the many changes? What is your favorite?

TD: The heart of music for me started with a transistor radio .The first record i got was from my parents they gave me ,The Stones,The Beatles, and Crosby ,Stills and Nash . My musical tastes only broadend with the diverse music and hits of the 70's ,which was everthing from the Carpenters to the Isley brothers ,Bill Withers,War, Blood Sweat and Tears., Chicago. Chaicago has haad many Adult cotempary hits, its just the chart structure in those days werent as diverse.

4. Your latest album "Satisfied" is an amazing album. How long did it take to record this album? Also did you write and/or produce any of the songs from the album?

TD: Satisfied took about 8 months from start to finish, I co wrote 4 of the songs on this Cd. and it took me to Sweden ,UK,NY ,LA.

5. My favorite song on the new album is "I'm Over My Head". Its really got a funky groove and I could listen to that song over and over again. Is there any song on the album that you could listen to over and over? Any favorites?

TD: Im over my Head is written by one of the great pop writers of my time ,Billy Steinberg.. ITs infectious and falls right in the vocal range that suits my voice best. My personal favorite is Under the bridge. I just love the explosiveness and vulnerability of the song and our production . I know how i felt during recording my performance of it. very open and elated..Quite freeing.

6. "Beautiful", The first single from the album "Satisfied" went #1 on the Billboard Dance Charts. How did that make you feel to go #1 again after being in the business for 20 years. Did you see this one coming?

TD: I try to see everything coming ,but man you never can ,,You try to do your best work under the circumstances before you .Pick/ write and produce the best of yourself. Thats the most i can control of it ,then you pick a team to sell it to the world.and Pray....the # 1 was a blessing ,

7. Many people are only familiar with the music of Taylor Dayne. But there is also another side to you... Taylor Dayne, the actress. Can you tell us how you got into acting and some of your high points in the field.

TD: Acting is a challange and it seems the direction where i will spend more time soon,,With Reality tv so large an audience and the biggest way to connect with audiences you cant ignore it ..but its like anything theres the good the bad and the ugly shows.. I felt acting was the next challange to take ,,

8. Looking back, Did you ever imagine you would still be here today giving the world your heart and soul through music? Many artists from the 80s fade and disappear but you obviously have staying power. How do you do it?

TD: I appreciate you saying that ,,I fight everday to stay in this game some days are better then others,,no one is handing out free anything. So im here cause its where i need to be

9. We know you took a break from the music business to raise your twins Levi and Astaria, what was your first thought when you heard you were pregnant with "Twins"? and what 's it like to be a mother? Did your world change much?

TD: WEll all ill say is that being their mom is such a gift ,and to look at my kids gives me the notion of something much greater then ourselves ,,they inspire me

10. You went from Rock to Dance to Adult Contemporary.... you are now going "Country". You are one of the cast members on the 3rd season of "Gone Country". How did this come about? Can you tell us about this show?

TD: YEHaww.. Again i was challanged to do this and very conflicted..and now I cant get enough of the song writing and work Im doing in Nashville ,Im writing songs again about something real and they encourage it !!! With some of the greatest talents in Nashville . its a very exciting time creatively for me.

Anything you want to add?

Thankyou ,thankyou ,,,, Watch the show ,,,xxx
